MONMOUTH, Ore. — First-place Simon Fraser put the pressure on early against Western Oregon with three first-half goals during a 3-1 win for the Red Leafs on Saturday morning at the WOU Soccer Field.
The Red Leafs remained on top of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with the win, moving to 5-1 in conference play and 7-2-1 overall. The Wolves are now 1-3-2 in league play and 2-5-3 overall.
The visitors opened the scoring quickly when Dariella Lopez found the back of the net at 5:43. Sofia Faremo added SFU's second score at 14:29, and Lopez added another at 20:24.
It was the eighth and ninth goals of the season for Lopez, which leads the GNAC.
Simon Fraser would not score again and Western Oregon battled back to put a point on the board in the 74th minute on Maya Courtenay's goal, off the pass from Kate Seibert. It was Courtenay's second goal of the season and the first assist of the year for Seibert.
SFU had 23 shots to WOU's four, with nine shots on goal to three for the Wolves.
