WHITEHALL – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is updating the management plan for Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park and is asking the public to share their thoughts about the park.
The park's current management plan was adopted in 2000 and amended in 2007. Since then, much has changed. Visitation has grown substantially, the Lewis and Clark Caverns Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, and the park's tours and visitor services have continued to evolve.
A management plan serves as the guiding document for a state park. It helps establish priorities for protecting natural and cultural resources, supporting quality visitor experiences, managing facilities and addressing future needs and opportunities.
"We know people have strong connections to Lewis & Clark Caverns, whether they've been visiting for decades or just discovered the park," said Amber Lopatine, FWP parks and outdoor recreation planner. "This survey is a chance for people to tell us what they love about the park, what could be better and what they hope we'll consider as we plan for its future."
FWP is currently conducting a public scoping survey to learn what people value about Lewis & Clark Caverns and what issues or opportunities should be considered as the new management plan is developed. The survey takes about five minutes to complete, with additional optional questions for those who would like to share more.
Feedback gathered during this stage will help inform the development of management alternatives later this fall and into 2027.
