Bigfork’s Makena Morley had another strong race on a big stage Friday, finishing fifth in the 5,000 at the New Balance Nationals meet in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Morley, a senior-to-be at Bigfork High, finished the race in 16 minutes, 49.74 seconds. Anna Rohrer of Mishawaka, Indiana, won in 16:16.97.
That was well ahead of second-place Natalie Rathjen of Dallas (16:46.24). Morley was among a fairly tight group of four runners in the faster second heat: Claire Howlett of Westhill, Connecticut was third at 16:46.74 and Erin Dietz of Bedford, Massachusetts followed at 16:47.34.
Morley set Montana’s cross country all-class record last October, when she won the State B title in 16:35.31.
