GREAT FALLS -- Jeff Thompson and his Kalispell Flathead wrestling team are back.

The Braves served noticed they're a force to be reckoned with by winning the CMR Holiday Classic on Saturday in dominating fashion. The Braves scored 264.5 points to capture the crown, while Colstrip was a distant second at 178.5. Great Falls High was third at 175, Butte was fourth at 133 and Columbia Falls placed fifth with 132.

The Braves captured four individual crowns. Hunter Rush pinned Easton Shupe of Great Falls in 1:17 at 103 pounds. Bryce Shaffer took the title at 113 with a 1-0 decision over Livingston's Adam Bankert. Hunter Welcome posted a 5-3 decision over Jakob Freeman of Columbia Falls in the championship at 182. And Matt Gash-Gilder needed overtime to post a 7-5 win over Conrad's Hunter Mycke at 205 pounds.


Frenchtown's Gurr wins at Tri State

At Coeur d'Alene, Frenchtown had three wrestlers finish in the top four at the Tri-State meet, including Riley Gurr as a champion.

Gurr pinned Alex Cruz of Orting (Washington) in the 126-pound final. His 106-pound teammate Jake Bibler finished third while 98-pound Walker Dyer was fourth.

Polson's 106-pounder Mateo Quinones took fifth, Parker Adler (138 pounds) and Hunter Fritsch (160) were sixth, and teammates Kendrick Baker (98) and Bridger Wenzel (126) were both seventh. Libby's Buddy Doolin was seventh at 106.

Missoula Sentinel brought 15 wrestlers to the meet, though none survived to the placing round. Beau King (138 pounds) and Reece Eckley (126) got the furthest in to the sixth round of consolation competition.
