GREAT FALLS -- Missoula Big Sky took the lead after Friday's first day of competition at the Great Falls Russell Holiday Classic wrestling tournament.
The Eagles scored 104 points to take a narrow lead over Colstrip, with 97.5. Great Falls High is third with 87.5 and Helena Capital is fourth at 87.
Big Sky advanced five wrestlers to Saturday's semifinals.
Jon Conklin moved into the semis with a 9-6 decision of Helena's Devon Crawford at 113 pounds. Teammate Wyatt Gordon moved on with a technical fall over Josh Pepos of Cascade, 19-4, at 120 pounds. At 145, Logan McGreevey posted an 8-1 decision over Cody King of Glasgow in the quarterfinals.
The Eagles' KJ Swanson took a 5-1 decision from Tanner Farren of CMR to move into the semis at 152. And Braxten Wilcox pinned Dillon's Patrick Griffin in 1:23 at 160 pounds.
Flathead advanced two into the semifinals, Payton Hume at 145 and Payton Boyce at 205.
Missoula Hellgate's Brady Needles advanced with a 6-4 decision over Hunter Blackwell of Forsyth at 170 pounds.
