Anglers are reminded that ice conditions can be extremely variable. Ice thickness can range from thick enough to support a vehicle to open water. Extreme caution should be used when accessing the ice.
Canyon Ferry: Rainbow trout continue to be caught from Pond 4 to the Silos area on the south end of the reservoir. Anglers are catching fish in 10 feet of water or less using black, white, and pink jigs or ice flies tipped with maggots. A few yellow perch are being caught in 40 feet of water between north of the Silos along the west shore out from Hole-in-the-Wall using Hali jigs or Swedish Pimples tipped with maggots. Ice conditions have been reported at 8 to 12 inches from the south end of the reservoir to Confederate Bay and 4 inches at Shannon boat ramp near the dam. — Adam Strainer, FWP, Helena.
Hauser: A few rainbows are being caught in the Causeway and at Black Sandy on jigs baited with maggots or worms. A few perch and walleye are being caught in the Causeway fishing just off the bottom. The ice in the Causeway is 5 to 10 inches and Black Sandy has 8 to 10 inches of ice. — Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena.
Holter: Perch are being caught at the Prairie Dog Town and Departure Point in 30 to 45 feet of water on jigs and maggots. There is 3 to 6 inches of ice. — Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena.
Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir: Kokanee are being caught while using jigs or Swedish Pimples and maggots or corn in 25 to 35 feet of water. Small perch are being caught consistently just off the bottom in 10 to 25 feet of water throughout the reservoir. There is 10 inches of ice. — Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena.
