Police, firefighters and A1 ambulances in Butte have responded to at least six medical emergencies involving people who have accidentally overdosed on heroin the past two days, and believe one overdose resulted in a death.
“The individuals appear to be using heroin intravenously and are suffering from respiratory arrest immediately after the drug is injected,” Sheriff Ed Lester said in a news release issued just after 6 p.m. Friday.
“All but one of the suspected overdose victims has recovered,” he said. “One person is believed to have died as a result of an accidental overdose. Toxicology reports on the person are pending.”
Lester said the heroin is apparently much more potent than usual and might contain another drug, possibly Fentanyl.
“If people don’t get the message, we will see more victims,” he said. “This substance will kill you.”
Anyone with information on this or other crime in the Butte area is asked to contact Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement at 406-497-1120.
