I am a U.S. Navy veteran with a service-connected disability. I am proud of the fact that I gave my utmost.
After I retired from the Navy, I went back to school and earned a BA in elementary education and completed my graduate studies in special education. I found both positions (the Navy and teaching) to be very challenging and rewarding.
I resent Troy Downing's implication in his television ad that teachers have an easy job — on the contrary, teaching requires hard work that is not financially well-compensated; it is formidable work!
I find it distasteful and inappropriate to see politicians, such Troy Downing, use the bully pulpit as a mechanism to obtain an elected office. He is setting a poor example and defaming all veterans with his bullying tactics.
