Ravalli County Democrats will be hosting a public forum titled “Our Montana Constitution Under Fire” in Hamilton on Saturday, Jan. 21.
“Over 50 bills have been proposed already by legislators to amend our Constitution. The bills target independent redistricting, the right to a clean and healthy environment, our nonpartisan judiciary branch, and the right to privacy,” a statement released by the Ravalli County Democrats said.
Mae Nan Ellingson, chair of the nonprofit organization Friends of the Montana Constitution, will be speaking at the event. Ellingson was the youngest delegate at the 1972 drafting of the Montana constitution and will talk about what it meant when it was written, and what it means now. She will also be addressing recent challenges to the Montana Constitution.
The event will take place at the Bedford Building, 223 S. 2nd St., in Hamilton from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free and lunch is included.
