Jo passed away June 5, 2020, after a valiant fight with cancer. Her last weeks were met with the same determination, strength and independence that characterized her 91 years. She insisted on getting out of bed to tend to her beloved dog Rascal, her yard, and her garden. Jo attended elementary and high school in Victor where she graduated in 1946. She moved to Missoula with her parents, George and Erma Graves Schweitzer, where she found employment at a bank. She soon met her life-long partner, Bob Mackenstadt, a young electrical engineer and they were married in 1955. Bob and Jo began life together in Spokane, Washington, followed by Bob’s ca-reer moves around the country including work as a civilian with the U.S. Navy on missiles, and ultimately to Riverside and Redding California. Among other work, Jo continued in banking. Included in her bank experience file is a commendation from the FBI for her valuable assistance.
Bob and Jo loved the open road and often took vacations in their motor home accompanied by their cocker spaniels. After 61 years together Bob preceded Jo in death. At Jo’s request, she will be cremated, no memorial service is planned.
