It is with great sadness that the family of Curtis Allen Bates announce his passing on April 1, 2020, in San Jose, CA.

Born Nov. 7, 1944, in Hamilton Montana, Curtis is survived by his wife Jean, two children Curtis Bates (of Windsor, Ca) and Jennifer Lang (of San Jose, Ca.), and his five grandchildren; Tyler, Haley, and Anthony Bates, and Lucas and Ethan Lang.

He is predeceased by his parents Dexter Curtis Bates and Nellie Jane Thelma Jones, his brother Charles Edward, and his sister Evelyn DeLee.

Curtis spent his first 18 years in Hamilton Mt. After graduating from high school in 1962, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served until 1966.

Following the Air Force Curtis settled in San Jose, Ca where he worked in electronics at Lockheed and at NASA. He continued his love of flying by getting his ATP and multiple ratings. He flew his beloved Cessna 180 (9402C), sea planes, helicopters, DC3s, P-51s, and Lear jets.

In the 1970’s he began crop dusting and commuted in his 180 to the San Joaquin Valley where he flew a Stearman and a helicopter. Curtis became a skydiver and opened a drop zone in Santa Nella, CA. and the spent the next 50 plus years jumping and flying skydivers at Pope Valley and Lodi drop zones.

Curtis had a wonderful sense of humor. He was honest, loving, and kind and will forever be missed.

At his request, Curtis now resides in Corvallis cemetery alongside his parents, brother, and sister.
