MISSOULA – It is with deep, and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Stanley Lawrence Swanson (Beaver), 73, of Missoula, Montana.
Stan Passed away peacefully Friday, September 1, 2017, at the home of Don and Mary Belasquez, Fallbrook, California. Stan was born in Yuba City, California, to Buck and Lois Swanson, May, 19, 1944. He lived most of his childhood in Pacifica, California, and teen years in Wheatland, California.
Growing up Stan was known for his infectious laughter, his bright smile, his unwillingness to back down from a fight. He was stubborn, but, steadfast to his convictions. He was popular with the girls, but rarely had time for them, as he was always busy playing sports or working on cars.
Stan loved baseball. In 1963, he was signed as a free agent by Cincinnati Reds and in 1971 Stan, better known as ‘Swany’ by his teammates, was traded to the Montreal Expos. In 1972, Stan quit baseball and bought the Lochsa Lodge, with Phil and Sharon Siegel. He loved the woods and he spent a lot of his time plotting a way to escape to the wilderness for hunting and fishing, for the next five years. The memories and friendships forged there were the closest to his heart. It was here that Stan gave his heart to Christ, forever a changed man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
Stan is survived by his daughters Shantel Watson, Shelley Cooper; sons Curtis Swanson and Rix Kordsmeier; his immediate family: brother Richard Swanson; Sister Cindy Swanson; Aunts Evelyn Misquez and Susie Silvestro; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
A service is planned for Sept. 23, at 11 a.m., at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton. A reception will follow at Daly Leach Memorial Chapel. The family asks that no flowers be sent, donations can be made in Stan’s name to help those affected by the fires, thru the unitedwaymissoula.org/give.
A special thank you to Elizabeth Hospice of Fallbrook, California and to Kim Swanson for their loving care and support in his final hours. Also to Daly Leach Memorial Chapel for all arrangements.
