HAMILTON —James (Jim) Schmitt, 70, of Hamilton, passed away March 26, 2020, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington, of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident in Hamilton. He was born Aug. 8, 1949, in Harvey, North Dakota, to Eugene and Lillian Schmitt.
Jim was well known as a carpet and flooring installer for over 50 years. He had owned and operated several stores. Jim’s love of horses and gift of training and racing brought him much pride and joy. He married Christine Hal on April 1, 2006, in Hamilton. Jim is preceded in death by wife, Christine; parents, Eugene and Lillian Schmitt; brothers, Willis Schmitt, Bismarck, North Dakota, Larry Schmitt, Hamilton.
He is survived by a son, James Schmitt, Corvallis; daughter, April Schmitt, Missoula; sisters, Julie Jacobson, Missoula, Addie Sallquist, Spokane, Washington; grandson, Chance Schmitt, Corvallis; and many nieces and nephews. A private memorial is planned for later this summer.
