Grace Lutheran Church is providing a free Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, Nov. 25, call by Nov. 23.

A free Thanksgiving meal will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 275 Hattie Ln, Hamilton. Call for reservations, a ride, home-delivery, questions or donations at 406-363-1924 by Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Grace Lutheran Church is providing a free Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, Nov. 25.

Pastor Vern Sandersfeld said providing a free Thanksgiving meal is a tradition.

“We’ve had it for at least 20 years,” he said. “We did not do it last year during COVID, instead we offered vouchers for folks if they wanted to eat out someplace.”

Grace Lutheran Church usually has 200 people enjoy the meal and around 80 of those are delivered to homes.

“This year especially we may have more folks who want it delivered instead of coming in, but we thought we’d get back in the saddle,” Sandersfeld said.

Hams, turkeys, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pecan pies and pumpkin pies are on the menu and donated by church parishioners.

“It takes of people to make the meal,” Sandersfeld said. “We have 30-40 volunteers who contribute in different ways.”

He said the reason to offer a free Thanksgiving meal is to show God’s love.

“We want to show that God is good and share what He has given to us,” Sandersfeld said. “I think of Psalm 103 that says, ‘forget not all His benefits’ and I really pray that people will see the benefit of faith, of community, of being kind to your neighbor.”

He said Christ is central to this thought.

“We believe in Christ, we believe that He showed us that love and cleansed our hearts,” Sandersfeld said. “That’s the idea. We’ve really been divided by the hard times and we long to draw people back together again in some way.”

“If for COVID concerns you and would rather not join together here, but want a meal, please call and we can arrange for delivery,” Sandersfeld said. “God opens His hand and satisfies us with good things.”

Grace Lutheran Church also welcomes everyone to attend their Thanksgiving Eve Worship at 7 p.m. on Nov. 24.
