The Bitterroot National Forest is planning to install two new culverts on the Darby-Sula Ranger District’s Bertie Lord Creek, east of Sula. The work is scheduled to begin on June 20 and continue for approximately four weeks. Heavy equipment and trucks from the project will be working and driving on Forest Road #5786, making the road impassable.
Signs will be posted on the closed gate alerting drivers to the project and estimated re-opening date.
The forest is replacing the culverts at this location along with doing road repairs and other improvements. The current culverts are not sufficient in size and during high runoff may pose potential risks to the road. Besides increasing stream flows, the new culverts and bottomless arch will also help improve the passage of fish and other aquatic organisms.
