It's not easy getting across the Eastside Highway during the morning commute.
With traffic seemingly on the increase on all the roads in the Bitterroot Valley, the elk that decide the grass looks greener on the other side have to hope that drivers are paying attention.
This small herd of elk was anxious to join the rest of their group that was already feasting on fresh green shoots of grass on the west side of the highway just south of Stevensville Friday morning.
After watching for a break in traffic, the elk finally decided to make their break. Fortunately, traffic came to a standstill long enough for them to get to the other side.
