Daly Mansion Events Coordinator Courtney Hartelius said she is excited.
“We couldn’t have our Mother’s Day Tea last year so we’re really looking forward to and excited to see how our event will turn out this year,” she said. “It’s a little bit different because it will be held in our brand new outdoor event tent.”
The theme this year is “Run for the Roses,” a Derby theme. There will be a hat contest with three categories: most elegant, most colorful and most creative.
“The tea from 2019 was a Mad Hatter’s Mother’s Day tea, it was the first time we did the hat contest and people loved it,” Hartelius said. “We were so impressed with the creativity that some people came with and thought it would be a fun element to continue to incorporate.”
The schedule for the day is that the grounds will open at 11 a.m., seating is at noon and the grounds will remain open until 3 p.m.
Garden tours will be offered at 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
“Our volunteer, Becky Lovejoy, will tour people through the rose garden that she’s been working on, there’s a vegetable garden and she might take people who are interested over to talk about the butterfly garden we have on the north lawn.”
For the tea, there will be one seating at noon with only 200 seats available. The buffet will have tea sandwiches, salads, favorite tea party items like deviled eggs, delectable desserts, mint-lemonade and, of course, tea.
“The buffet will be served by masked and gloved volunteers to still be mindful of the current health situation,” Hartelius said. “We’ll serve the tea, then from 1:15 to 3 o’clock is free time for guests to enjoy the mansion’s beautiful grounds. We’ll have some yard games like croquet, a photo booth set up on the front porch and the second garden tour.”
Snow Bunny Cookie Company donated a couple of baskets of cookies, one will be a raffle item the other a door prize.
“People should come because it is an event that families have looked forward to every year,” she said. “It’s a fun excuse to dress up in your Sunday best even though it is on a Saturday. It is an elegant event that you can share with your grandmothers, mothers and daughters.”
Tickets to the tea cost $35 for adults and $20 for youth age 13 and under. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 406-363-6004, 2#, or online at dalymansion.org.
