A Hamilton man is being held on $100,000 bond for allegedly raping a 7-year-old girl after telling her father he planned to marry her “regardless of your desire.”
Christopher Harley Morgan, 29, was arrested last week and charged with four counts of felony sexual intercourse without consent.
According to Ravalli County Attorney Bill Fulbright’s charging affidavit, Morgan was 27 and 28 years old when the alleged rapes occurred in 2016.
The girl’s father and Morgan were acquaintances.
The affidavit said the father became worried about how close the girl and Morgan were becoming and instructed them both that they were not to be alone together.
The affidavit said Morgan exchanged text messages with the father that became increasingly aggressive, including threats to the girl’s little sister and telling the father the girl “and I will be married, regardless of your desire.”
At a therapy session in March 2018 at Shodair Children’s Hospital, the girl told a doctor that Morgan had raped her several times, with the assaults beginning in January 2017. The doctor reported to a responding detective that the girl was “extremely afraid” of Morgan “to a degree she does not normally see in kids.”
During a subsequent forensic interview at First Step Resource Center in Missoula, the girl repeated the allegations. She said Morgan would tell her to “come in my room and cuddle with me” or pick her up while she was sleeping and carry her to his room.
She said Morgan told her not to tell her dad about the two of them because it was their “secret.”
Fulbright asked for $100,000 bond because of Morgan’s unstable housing history.
