NVPL Golf Fundraiser

“Birdies for Books” is a golf fundraiser at the Whitetail Golf Course in support of the North Valley Public Library on Saturday, August 24.

Calling all golfers, the North Valley Public library is having a 9-hole scramble golfing fundraiser called “Birdies for Books” next to the Lee Metcalf Wild Refuge at the Whitetail Golf Course on Saturday, August 24.

Amy Horlacher, president of the non-profit organization that works to support the library (The North Valley Public Library Foundation), said community support is invaluable to the independent library.

“We don’t have the resources that county libraries or city libraries have but we still have the same needs,” Horlacher said. “We thought it would be fun to have a golf scramble this year, several members of our foundation are golfers. It is a good way to get out, have fun and support the library at the same time.”

Teams of four check in at the Whitetail Golf Course at 8 a.m. and have a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

“There will be prizes for longest drive, longest putt and all sorts of fun prizes,” Horlacher said. “We have one member of the board who loves to give away prizes for the worst shot because she said she can be the one to do that. She’ll get creative.”

The prizes are “golf swag.”

The cost to enter the fundraiser is $150 and includes barbecue lunch of pulled pork, beans, chips and dessert.

“We’d love to have more golfers and to have three to 10 more teams,” Horlacher said, Monday. “The first prize for winning the tournament is winning your entry fee back.”

Horlacher said the funds will be used to meet library needs.

“We raise funds in a lot of different ways including grant writing,” Horlacher said. “But often grants are very specific in how they can be used and what the library needs more of is adult programs that we have. We have excellent adult, children and family programs.”

She said the building is getting old and needs maintenance like asbestos removal, flooring updates and working on drainage issues.

“There are a lot of issues in the building and you can’t usually get grants and funding for that kind of a project to repair building issues,” Horlacher said. “We’re also helping the library with their goal of creating a maker space.”

The Whitetail Golf Course is located at 4295 Wildfowl Land in Stevensville. Register by completing a form at the library or by contacting Amy Horlacher amybhorlacher@gmail.com (406-642-3632) or Jody Torrey jodymarietorry@gmail.com (406-274-8454).

“Any support of the North Valley Public Library is always appreciated and donations are always welcome,” Horlacher said. “People can mail their donations if they are unavailable to golf on Saturday but want to support us. We are always so grateful.”

Sponsors for the Birdies for Books NVPL Golf Scramble include Five Valley Livestock Options, BE Forest, Ammo and More, Schultz Construction and Development and Fireside Pizza and Sandwich.

The North Valley Public Library is at 208 Main Street in Stevensville.
