Ravalli County public health nurse Karyn Johnston completed her last day on Thursday, resigning on the heels of Public Health Officer Dr. Carol Calderwood’s resignation.

Johnston would not share her reasons for the sudden departure. “I can’t really say why I’m leaving because it’s internal in the office,” she said Thursday.

Ravalli County Commissioner Chris Hoffman said he was unable to discuss the situation.

“Karyn is a county employee with a right to privacy. If she wants to talk to you, she can,” Hoffman said.

Calderwood gave the County Commissioners her resignation on Saturday citing their and the sheriff's disregard for enforcing the governor’s mask mandate for counties with over four cases of COVID-19.

This past weekend, Luann Burgmuller, who had returned to the department to help with the pandemic after retiring in 2017, also tendered her resignation.
