Corvallis' Tyson Tucker named Montana Athletic Director of the Year

Corvallis High School Athletic Director Tyson Tucker is the Montana Athletic Director of the Year for Class A Schools.

He was awarded the distinction by the Montana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association at the Montana High School Association meeting Monday.

“I was completely shocked,” Tucker said. “I was just sitting there and Rick Phillips from Belgrade was running the meeting and he announced Class B and Class C then he said, “For the Class A we’ll have (Corvallis Principal) Cammie Knapp introduce the recipient.’ She walked in and I didn’t even know she was there.”

Tucker began working for Corvallis in the fall of 2010 as the assistant principal and athletic director of the high school. Since that time, he has served as Southwestern A president since October 2014 and the Western A president since November 2015. Tucker organized and ran state tennis, divisional tennis, divisional volleyball, assisted with running speech, track and cross-country meets and wrestling tournaments outside of the general responsibilities from any regular season game or match.

Knapp said Tucker connects with students, staff and community members in Corvallis High School and the surrounding community.

“He is consistent in his actions, follows through with coaches and students and makes time to meet with parents and students,” Knapp said. “He reduces the load for coaches with collecting paperwork, schedules facilities for practices, games and open gyms, listens to concerns and brainstorms solutions. He maintains an objective and equitable demeanor with students, staff, coaches and parents. Our athletic program operates smoothly with the hard work, long hours, organization and follow-through from Tyson.”

Knapp said Corvallis High School has primarily had a reputation of being an academically rigorous school in the Bitterroot Valley.

“However, in the past 10 years, Corvallis has maintained academic rigor and excelled athletically with over 36 state championships,” Knapp said. “Congratulations Tyson on your accomplishment and the accolades that accompany being considered Athletic Director of the Year for Class A Schools.”
