A Hamilton woman accused of driving 42 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone on Tuesday faces a felony charge of driving under the influence.

Mary Louise Hoffman, 50, had prior DUIs in California, according to the charging affidavit. She was also charged with the misdemeanors of driving with a license suspended or revoked, no proof on insurance and an open alcoholic beverage container in the vehicle.

According to the charging documents, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper stopped Hoffman's car on Highway 93 after it sped past. Hoffman admitted she was driving too fast, and said she'd consumed two beers and a shot of vodka prior to driving, the affidavit said. The trooper saw an open 24-ounce beer can in the vehicle, it said.

A breath alcohol test registered .184, it said; .08 is considered impaired.

Hoffman was seen by Justice of the Peace Jennifer Ray on Wednesday. Bond was set at $10,000 with alcohol monitoring and she is set to appear next in district court on Aug. 19 or 20.
