“Bust Heart Health Myths” is a free class with Brett Mollenhauer at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, Feb. 20.
“Dr. Navone has been running this clinic for several years and the volume has grown enough and is big enough to need a second provider,” Mollenhauer said. “Sometime patients see him and sometimes they see me. It gives people a second option and it helps us with how quickly we can help more patients.”
Typical cardiology patients in Hamilton are receiving noninvasive care and are referred for invasive treatments in Missoula if necessary.
“We do screenings, determine what level care they need and manage patient medications,” Mollenhauer said. “We are the nonsurgical, nonprocedural side of cardiology.”
The providers conduct stress tests — screening for blockages in the arteries, shock hearts back to normal rhythm and some testing for peripheral arterial disease.
You have free articles remaining.
Typical patients have known heart disease, those with stints or bypass surgery and those with heart failure.
“[People with] cardio myopathy weakness in heart muscle, commonly people with heart valve disorders, valve repairs and replacements, then we also see people with high blood pressure or those who have had strokes,” Mollenhauer said.
The free presentation will be broad and cover cardiology question that are often asked in the clinic. It will cover appropriate ranges of blood pressure, good and bad things about statin medications, good levels of cholesterol, if people should be taking aspirin, commonly done tests available and calcium testing.
“I’ll also talk about things that come up on the news that people have questions about,” Mollenhauer said. “It causes questions every now and then because people are not always treated the same and things change over time.”
He said everyone has a heart should come to the workshop.
“Anyone who is interested in the topic,” Mollenhauer said. “I think the talk will be pretty broad with something for everyone whether they are established as patients here or going to a primary care office.”
The talk will be focused more on preventative action rather than an established disease.
