The weather outside may be drawing colder and colder, but western Montana's high school athletes are heating up in the gyms and pools around the region.
Each week, we nominate an equal number of boys and girls for our “Prep Athletes of the Week.” Readers will be able to vote for one boy and one girl in polls that appear by noon Monday at Missoulian.com. Voting will be open through 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The winners will be published in the Missoulian’s Prep Extra section each Thursday.

Missoula Big Sky's Luke Entzel won the 170-pound weight class at the Tom LeProwse Invitational wrestling meet Saturday with a 10-3 decision in the finals.
Thompson Falls' Peyton Irvine scored a 39-second pin in the finals of the 113-pound weight class Saturday at the Ted Kato Memorial Wrestling Tournament, which the Bluehawks won.

Darby's Zach McCrossin scored 42 points Saturday in a big victory over St. Regis as his Tigers rolled to 101 points in the basketball game.
Troy's Gage Tallmadge scored 32 points, including all 17 of the Trojans' points in the first half, in a basketball game with Ronan on Saturday.

Missoula Hellgate's Sophia Layton won the freestyle sprints of 100 and 200 yards Saturday at the Kalispell swimming invitational, and also added 200 medley relay gold.
