The Missoula Maulers hockey team made a successful home debut on Friday, scoring a 2-1 overtime victory over the Billings Bulls at Glacier Ice Rink.
Playing in front of a healthy crowd of 1,367 fans, Dylan Chase scored the game-winner at 4:16 in overtime, with local products Anders Nord and Brett Mathews each picking up an assist.
The Maulers moved to 2-1 in American West Hockey League action. The game marked the first of the season for Billings.
Although the contest stretched into overtime, Missoula dominated in total shots, 49-24. Both of the Maulers’ goals came in power-play situations.
Missoula struck first at 8:11 in the second period when Brock Brothers found the net on a feed from Mathews. Billings knotted the score at 1-1 at 12:34 in the third period on an unassisted goal by Stephen Thompson.
Missoula will hit the road for a game at Glacier on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
