BUTTE -- Kalispell Flathead coach Jeff Thompson and picked up where he left off in his first dual back as head coach after an eight-year hiatus from the high school wrestling program.

The Braves topped Butte, 42-25, winning eight matches along the way. Flathead's returning state champion Trae Vasquez won his 132-pound match with a pin at 1 minute, 9 seconds to start his junior season on the right track. The Braves had six more pins in the win, including two falls in the first minute.

Flathead's Kenyon Fretwell pinned Bryson Henningsen in 54 seconds in the 145-pound match. Payton Hume won in 51 seconds at 152.

It was Thompson's first high school win since 2008, when his Braves won the state wrestling championship. Thompson previously held the coaching position from 2000-08.
