GREAT FALLS -- The resurgent Kalispell Flathead Braves grabbed the lead after the first day of action at the 39th annual Great Falls Russell Holiday Classic wrestling tournament Friday at the CMR Fieldhouse.
The Braves totaled 137.5 points through the quarterfinals and consolation rounds. Colstrip is second at 105.5 and Great Falls High is third with 96. Butte High is fourth at 86 and Columbia Falls is fifth with 76.
Flathead is in strong shape heading into Saturday's semifinals with nine wrestlers still alive in the championship bracket. They are Hunter Rush (103), Cody DeVall (120), Tanner Russell (126), Payton Hume (152), Garrett Reike (160), Tucker Nadeau (170), Hunter Welcome (182), Matt Gash-Gilder (205) and Michael Lee (285).
