LIBBY -- The Polson girls and Libby boys secured Northwestern A Divisional tennis team titles on Friday. 

The Polson girls piled up 52 points, 17 better than runner-up Whitefish. The Pirates were unable to mine gold in singles or doubles but Marlee Congdon reached the singles final before falling to Emily Getts of Columbia Falls, 6-3, 6-3.

The girls' doubles title went to Anna Peterson and Katie Fyall of Whitefish. They swept teammates Heather Luedke and Hannah Madsen in the championship match, 7-5, 6-2.

The Libby boys scored 40 points to edge second-place Whitefish by one. Walter Briones of the Loggers took the singles title with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Max Smyley of Whitefish.

The boys' doubles title went to Colin Kenney and  Quaid Harlan of Polson. They edged teammates Cadis Chowning and Tommy Mercer, 7-5, 7-6 (10).


In Butte, Stevensville's Colton Belcourt and Curtis Liston secured the Southwestern A boys' doubles championship with a pair of Friday wins.

The duo beat Josh Heath and Bridger Palin of Hamilton in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-2. In the title match they rallied past Corvallis' Riley Jessop and Caleb Powell, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The finals in boys' singles and girls' singles and doubles are all slated for Saturday morning, weather permitting. In the event of poor weather, the matches will be moved to the Peak Racquet Club in Missoula.

Corvallis senior DJ Pekoc continued his winning ways in boys' singles Friday with a semifinal win over teammate Jesse Knapp, 6-0, 6-0. He will face Hamilton's Alex Raymond in the final after the freshman outlasted junior Mark Waldrup of Dillon, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

In girls' singles, defending state champion Laramie McHugh of Corvallis reached the title match with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins Friday. She played teammate Shelby Jessop in the semifinals after blanking Hamilton's Sarah Trinh in the quarterfinals.

In girls' doubles, Corvallis' Dakota Vaccaro and Miriam Montgomery earned a berth in the finals with a thrilling 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 win over Danielle Haacke and Saya Shimazaki of Stevensville. The Blue Devil duo will face Jen Womack and Nicole Thompson of Dillon, who beat Ali Guldseth and Kellsie Quinn of Butte Central in their semifinal, 6-2, 6-4.

Corvallis leads in the boys' and girls' team standings. The Blue Devil boys have 36 points, which is eight more than second-place Dillon. The Corvallis girls have 43 points, which is seven more than second-place Dillon.
