BILLINGS — Sophomore point guard Danielle Zahn scored 15 of her game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter to help Florence defeat Colstrip 60-59 in loser-out play at the State B girls' basketball tournament on Friday at Rimrock Auto Arena.
Zahn's points included the go-ahead free throws with 33 seconds remaining to give the Falcons a 58-56 lead. Teammate Makenna Liles added two insurance free throws with 13.6 seconds remaining.
Liles finished with eight points and 10 rebounds,while teammate Autumn Round added 10 points. Zahn finished 8 of 10 from the field and 8 for 11 from the free-throw line.
"A point guard like that is a once-in-a-lifetime kid that comes along," Falcons coach Duane Zeiler said of Zahn. "You just can't teach that. You either have it or you don't."
Florence-Carlton trailed 42-36 entering the fourth quarter. The Falcons (17-9) will play Malta or Red Lodge at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Billings Skyview High School in another loser-out game.
Amaya LaFranier led the Fillies with 18 points, while Shelby Jordan had 13 and Tayler Factor 12.
Colstrip came into the tournament undefeated and finished the season 23-2.
Three Forks 59, Ronan 49
Three Forks used an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to break away from Ronan in a 59-49 win early Friday afternoon in loser-out competition.
The Wolves (20-5) are scheduled to play at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Maidens (23-2) were eliminated in two games after coming into the tournament undefeated for the second year in a row. Both teams came into the game after tough first-round losses on Thursday.
Tied 46-46, Kyle Olson hit the go-ahead basket with 2:41 remaining in the game. She finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs. Talyn Pitcher added 12 points for Three Forks.
Alicia Camel led Ronan with 19 points, while Micalann McCrea had 13 points, eight rebounds and six steals.
