The Montana track and field teams have already competed twice since the start of the indoor season in early December, but the Grizzlies will finally put their full squads on display for the first time on Friday at the Montana State Invitational.
Montana opened the indoor season six weeks ago at the Candy Cane Invitational, with 10 event victories and four school records. On Monday and Tuesday the Grizzlies’ multi-event athletes kicked off the 2017 calendar by competing in the pentathlon and heptathlon at Bozeman.
Friday’s meet will start at 3:30 p.m. with the men’s weight throw and men’s high jump. Running events will begin at 5 p.m. with the women’s distance medley relay.
“It would be nice to have two or three weeks of practice leading up to this meet,” said UM coach Brian Schweyen. “All the kids just came back Monday, so it’s been a quick let’s-get-ready-for-this-meet-and-go kind of thing."
Friday’s meet opens the condensed indoor season, which begins in earnest in January and wraps up in February.
The Grizzlies will return to Bozeman next Friday, then make trips to meets at Washington, Idaho and Idaho State before returning to Montana State on Feb. 17.
The Big Sky Conference championships will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, through Saturday, Feb. 25, at Pocatello, Idaho.
