MARICOPA, Ariz. — The Montana women’s golf team shot rounds of 306 and 307 on Thursday and is tied for 11th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, which is being played at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
Kari Opatz, who shot rounds of 76 and even-par 72 is tied for 12th at 4-over. Alexa Schendelman was even through her first 10 holes, as was Opatz. Hailey Hoagland and Baylee Barckley were both 2-over through 10 holes. Opatz, Schendelman and Hoagland all came in at 4-over 76; Barckley carded a 78.
Opatz had three bogeys in her second round but followed each of them within a few holes with a birdie, including one on her final hole, the par-5 8th, to shoot a 72, her best round as a Grizzly.
Schendelman, who was 2-under through three holes and even-par through 11, shot her best score of the year in round two, coming in at 74 after bogeying her final hole, the par-4 9th. The senior is playing in just her second tournament this spring, her fourth of the year.
Hoagland shot a second-round 78, and Montana had to count Amanda Kahn’s 83 after Barckley carded four double bogeys in her second round for an 84.
Montana is tied for 11th with Portland State and Boise State. UC Irvine, which shot rounds of 296 and 290, leads the tournament by two strokes over Sacramento State and four over UC Riverside and Nevada.
