BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) -- Ronnie Dawson had two hits and scored two runs, and Abdiel Saldana didn't allow a hit in five innings as the Buies Creek Astros defeated the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 3-0 on Monday.
Saldana (2-0) picked up the win after he struck out two and walked two.
In the first inning, Buies Creek went up 1-0 early on a double by Josh Rojas that scored Dawson. The Astros scored again in the eighth when Abraham Toro hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Chas McCormick.
Matt Swarmer (0-2) went five innings, allowing one run and four hits in the Carolina League game. He also struck out eight and walked one. Jorge Alcala pitched four scoreless innings for his first save of the season.
The Pelicans were held scoreless for the third time this season, while the Astros' staff recorded their fifth shutout of the year.
