I recently filed a case with small claims court against a local garage that caused major damage to by 6.0 diesel Ford pickup. The judge refused to hear the case and said it should be taken to district court. I can't justify hiring a lawyer for such a small settlement even though I can prove negligence.
The garage put an after-market oil filter into my 6.0 diesel engine. They assured me that the different oil filter was safe. Unfortunately, I believed them.
After I had to replace my engine, I talked directly to the Ford Motor Company and several highly qualified diesel mechanics. I also research the problem thoroughly on the internet. Fort Motor even presented a seminar explaining the consequences of an after-market oil filter.
Don't let your garage replace your oil filter with anything but the correct filter listed in your owners manual.
If you are uncertain, take it to a reputable garage like Bell-McCall or Mildenberger Motors. Spending a few dollars more now will save you a lot of dollars later.
