KALISPELL - A Whitefish man has been given a two-year deferred sentence for his role in a botched attempt to rob a drug dealer in which his friend was shot and suffered permanent injuries.

The Daily Inter Lake reports Bo Hanger was sentenced Thursday by District Judge Ted Lympus in Kalispell. Hanger had earlier pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence for throwing away a gun holster after the shooting. Prosecutors dropped a charge of accountability to robbery.

Court records say Hanger was driving an SUV with Bryan Schloss and David Palumbo as passengers on Dec. 5, 2009, when Schloss tried to rob Palumbo. Schloss' 9mm pistol jammed and prosecutors say Palumbo shot Schloss four times with a .40-caliber handgun.

Schloss was given a five-year suspended sentence. Palumbo was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
