The Hamilton High School Lady Broncs advanced to compete at the Montana High School Association 2018 Class A Girls State Tournament in Great Falls, March 8-10.

At the Western A Girls Basketball championship tournament in Butte, the Hamilton Lady Broncs earned the fourth seed and will play first seed Havre in Game 1 at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 8. The loser will play at 2:30 p.m., on Friday in Game 5 and the winner will play in Game 7 at 6:30 p.m., on Friday. The championship game will be played at 8 p.m., on Saturday.

Head coach Mark Albert said the Western A tournament was tough.

“We had a heartbreaker overtime loss to number two ranked Browning on Thursday, but our girls are very resilient and we made our way back through the loser bracket and beat both Libby and Frenchtown to advance to state,” Albert said. “We went to overtime with number 3 ranked Columbia Falls in the consolation final and played very well.”

Albert praise his team for their skills and attitude.

“I am so proud of our players and their grit and determination,” he said. “We will need all of that and more as we face undefeated and number one ranked Havre in the opener of the state tournament next week...but we match up well and are very capable of advancing in this tournament.”

Deb Gabelhausen, spokesperson for the HHS Booster Club, said they are sponsoring a balloon send–off for the team on Wednesday.

“Students, parents, teachers, staff and community members are invited to meet in the HHS gym at 1:15 p.m., on Wednesday,” Gabelhausen said. “The balloon send–off will take place outside the south gym door at 1:30 p.m. Let’s give our Girls Basketball team a proper Bronc Nation send–off.”
