A Hamilton man arrested last November on three rape charges involving a 14-year-old runaway was sentenced last week to 20 years with the Department of Corrections, with 15 years suspended.
Brian Speelman, who was 22 years old at the time of the incidents, pleaded guilty in July. In court documents, he wrote that he “met a girl and took advantage of her” for his own needs, and “had sex with her.” He acknowledged that he kept the victim, who was from Darby, away from her mother, who was searching for the runaway.
Speelman also admitted he was in possession of marijuana at the time of the offense.
At the time of his arrest, Speelman said he was in a relationship with the girl. Because she was younger than 16, and he was four or more years older, she can’t legally consent to sex.
