The battle was tough during the 25th Bitterroot Kiwanis Annual All Valley Classic basketball competition featuring star athletes from Darby to Florence, Tuesday.

The Girls dark team won after a sudden-death free throw contest in overtime and the Boys dark team won 94 to 91.

Ky Burch of Hamilton won the boys 3-point competition and Kara Nye of Hamilton won the girls. 

The Bitterroot Kiwanis presented special honors to the athletes.

Players of the year include basketball Boys - Zach McCrossin, Darby and Girls – Corinne Sanderson, Corvallis; volleyball - Megan Kowalski, Florence; soccer Boys – Cayden Ayers, Corvallis, and Girls - Corinne Sanderson, Corvallis; football – Colt Neville, Victor, and Manny Rivera, Hamilton; softball – Kloie Nye, Hamilton.

The lineman of the year was Jaylen Taggart.

Athletes of the year were Boys – Ky Burch, Hamilton, and Girls - Reilly Rostad, Hamilton.

Recipients of the Stephanie Gonzalez award were Joyce Allred, Victor, and Crissy Lubke, Hamilton.

In other sports news, the coaches in the Montana High School Association selected five Bitterroot Valley athletes as 2016-2017 Southwest All Conference honorees for Boys Basketball.  

Hamilton High School sophomore Hunter Omlid is All State and First Team All Conference and junior Carter Kearns is First Team All Conference.

Stevensville High School Junior Dalton Bragg and senior James Fry are Second Team All Conference.

Corvallis High School senior Tylor Nixon is Second Team All Conference. 

Travis Blome, Hamilton coach said Omlid and Kearns work extremely hard.

“Omlid is a great all around player who led the league in rebounding even though he is only 6'1,” Blome said. “He gives everything he has and is a pleasure to coach.

“Kearns is a fantastic player with the ability to score in many ways,” Bloom said. “. He is very difficult to matchup with and his length causes a lot of problems. He is a great leader and I am looking forward to his seeing him grow as a senior.”
