Montana will send 10 rifle shooters to join another 753 competing in the USA 2018 Junior Olympic National Shooting Championship in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in April.
The 20 day youth competition begins April 7 with Men’s Rifle, which leads into Women’s Rifle beginning April 14 and concludes with the Junior Pistol program and Paralympic Air Rifle starting April 20.
Three of Montana’s invitees are members of the Yellowstone Rifle Club. Rachael Charles will compete in the age 14 and under category while Morgan Erickson will compete in the 18-20 category. Tio Brody was also invited to compete in the age 18-20 air rifle and small bore categories. He is a distant member of YRC, and also competes with the Circle Rifle Club.
Other Montana competitors include: Libby Diller, Hellgate Junior Shooters; Maddison Korthas, UNL Rifle Team; Elizabeth Lorenz, Hellgate Junior Shooters; Mackenzie Strauch, Gallatin Valley Sharp Shooters; Jonna Wamken, Hellgate Junior Shooters; Lucas Figi, USNA; and Samuel Weisenburger, Hellgate Junior Shooters.
The top three finishers in each of the eight events will earn a spot to compete for their country at the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation World Championships, set for Aug. 31-Sept. 14 in Changwon, South Korea.
The Colorado competition will feature competitors who either won their state championship or were selected based on a score they attained.
