FLORENCE - The Bitterroot Red Sox swept the Bucs Saturday in a Class A Legion doubleheader in Florence.
In the first contest, the Red Sox bounced back from a 5-0 deficit headed into the bottom of the sixth and claimed a 8-5 win.
“We battled hard,” said Red Sox coach Brett Henry. “We played pretty rough starting out but we came back and that’s the most impressive thing. They battled and never gave up.”
Headed into the top of the seventh, the Red Sox found themselves down a run.
Clint Crossman knocked a single to bring the tying run in and Rodee Anderson added a single for an RBI and a 6-5 Red Sox advantage.
“Crossman hasn’t played very much and he was able to come up with some big hits for us in a clutch situation,” Henry said. “He stepped up big for us.”
Ryan Weigle hit a double for two RBIs and the Sox went up 8-5 to finish out the top of the inning.
Weigle finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and earned the win on the mound.
“It was a team effort,” Henry said. “We came together that last inning. Everybody pretty much had a hand in it so collectively it was a good team effort.”
For the Bucs, Matt Perez went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs while Zach Blackstun had two hits.
“As far as I’m concerned with the way we played, I’m happy with it,” said Bucs coach Dustin Bahm. “Weigle’s a good pitcher. He’s been pretty consistent. I think we did a good job getting to him early.”
Koby Salmela spent most of the time on the mound for the Bucs.
“He threw a heck of a game,” Bahm said.
In the nightcap, the Red Sox put up a 8-4 win after going up 3-2 after four innings.
Matt Hamlin finished with two doubles and five RBIs for the Red Sox while teammate Mike Stanford had six hits.
Tyler Lind went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Bucs who host the Class A Missoula Mavericks next Saturday.
The Red Sox will take on the Class AA Missoula Mavericks on the road Saturday.
“We need to play consistent all the time,” Henry said. “When we show up to play we’re a pretty good team.”
