Dave Stamey to perform benefit concert
by MARYSA FALK - Ravalli Republic
Bitterroot Therapeutic Riding will host an evening of entertaining western songs and poetry to raise funds for their scholarship foundation.
The Dave Stamey Concert will begin at 7 p.m. on July 11 in the Hamilton Performing Arts Center.
Therapeutic riding is a medically coordinated program for adults and children. Certified instructors teach stimulating classes focussed on a rider specific goal.
“The horse is the only animal that resembles the human stride,” Linda Olsen, director of BTR said. “People can feel joint movement they haven’t been able to.”
Dave Stamey, a former cowboy, packer and wrangler, is one of the most popular cowboy entertainers on the scene today.
He has twice been voted Entertainer of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists.
Local cowboy poet, Shad Pease will share the stage with Stamey as he paints vivid images in the course of presenting his poetry and drawing his audience into his vision of the cowboy life.
“I think one of the best things is that we will be sharing with our friends and neighbors is an evening with an award winning singer and songwriter while contributing to the well-being of others,” Olsen said. “How special is that, to have a wonderful night out and be giving back at the same time?”
A silent auction featuring a two-night stay at the exclusive Paws Up Resort, limited edition bronze sculptures and a variety of other items will also be available throughout the evening.
All proceeds go directly to the BTR to allow those in need of its services the opportunity by awarding scholarships.
A former rider and benefactor to the program will also buy eight tickets for the handicapped and elderly or those financially strained who wish to attend the concert.
Tickets are $25. Seating is limited so purchase them early through Chapter One Bookstore, Bitterroot Valley Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Music, Elements Design and Bitterroot Therapeutic Riding.
