Walter Andrew Shafer



DARBY - Walter Andrew Shafer, 70, of Darby died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at his residence of natural causes.

He was born June 29, 1938 in Boulder, Colo. to Vernie C. and Helen A. Evans Shafer. He graduated form Cimmaron High School in 1956.

On Sept. 11, 1956 he entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with the 3rd Marine Division as a PFC in an infantry unit.

He worked in saw mills for 10 years in and around Darby. Andy spent 25 years working at Trapper Creek Job Corps and fighting forest fires. He retired in 1999.

He was a member of the Buffler Runners - Black Powder Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and black powder shoots.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Surviving include his wife, Norma of Darby; sons, John of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Patrick of Hamilton; daughter, Andrea Shafer of Sun Burst; sister, Margaret Sallee of Chula Vista, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Jan Shafer, Paula Horton and Laura Joslin; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton. Military honors will be presented by the Marine Corps League - Bitterroot Detachment and Hamilton American Legion. Private family urn placement will take place at a later date.

Peggy Kemp Averre



CORVALLIS - Peggy Kemp Averre departed this earth May 16, 2009 of Congestive Heart Failure. Born in Beaumont, Texas July 17, 1941. She leaves behind a sister, Carol Harwell; two brothers and grown children, Charles Woodward, Charlotte Woodward, Douglas Vaughn and Golda Vaughn in addition to four grandchildren.

Peggy was an interesting and colorful woman. She traveled the world artificially inseminating cattle, she broke horses, was a sharp shooter, cooked for outfitters, flew helicopters, worked as a Can at Marcus Daly and the list goes on and on.

Though she has left this earth, in all our hearts she will remain.

Cremation and no services per her wishes.

Betty L. Titeca



NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Betty L. Titeca, 78, formerly of Hamilton, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany, Ind.

Betty was born May 2, 1931 to the late John and Hattie Whitehead.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Titeca and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving includes two sons, Jim (Marlene) of Corydon, Ind. and Phil of Helena; one grandson also survives.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Corvallis Cemetery with Rev. William Jensen officiating. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.

Katherine Bushell

HAMILTON - Katherine Bushell, 98, of Hamilton passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Bitterroot Valley Living Center in Stevensville. Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Daly-Leach Chapel.

Amy Stroud



MISSOULA - Amy Stroud, 79, of Missoula, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at St. Patrick Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton followed by interment at Victor Cemetery. A full obituary will follow.
