A two-day women’s-only class to introduce them to defensive handguns is slated for Aug. 26 and Sept. 9 at the Whittecar Range in Hamilton.
The first day is designed to assist women in choosing the right handgun. There will be discussions on handgun safety, basic operation of revolvers, semi-automatic handguns, and the cartridges used in each type of handgun.
Handguns will be provided so women can handle the different types and models. Ammunition also will be provided for a live fire session on the range. A self defense book specifically for women also is included.
The legal aspects of the use of deadly force also will be discussed.
The lapse between classes will students to purchase a firearms and become familiar with their operation for the conclusion of training on the second day.
The second day will consist of live fire training, with an emphasis on safe gun handling. All exercises will consist of basic defensive shooting drills and training techniques.
Different types of ammunition and their uses also will be discussed.
Successful completion of the training will fulfill the required safety class for applications to the state for a concealed carry permit.
The class is limited to 10 participants.
